Publication Identification Standard
A consistent, transparent way to identify and classify technical publications issued through ETROYL Academy.
1. Identifier format
Each registered ETROYL Academy publication receives a structured identifier in this format:
ETA-DD-TT-NNNNNN
Example format only: ETA-09-ST-000042. This example does not represent an assigned publication ID unless it appears in the official Publication Registry.
| Field | Meaning | Rule |
|---|---|---|
ETA | ETROYL Academy | Fixed publisher prefix. |
DD | Primary domain | Two-digit code from the domain list below. |
TT | Publication type | Two-letter code describing the publication's main form. |
NNNNNN | Serial number | Six digits, starting at 000001 for each domain-and-type combination. |
2. Engineering domain codes
Every identifier contains one primary domain. Related domains and topics can be recorded as secondary metadata without changing the identifier.
| Code | Primary domain |
|---|---|
00 | RF & Antenna Engineering |
01 | Digital Design & FPGA |
02 | Software & Programming |
03 | Radar & Sensing |
04 | Embedded Systems |
05 | Signal Processing |
06 | Electromagnetic Modelling |
07 | Robotics & Control |
08 | Computer Vision & Imaging |
09 | Systems Engineering |
10 | Test, Verification & Validation |
3. Publication-type codes
| Code | Type | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
RS | Research | Original research, methods or findings. |
EN | Engineering | Design notes, implementation records or engineering specifications. |
ST | Study | Structured technical investigations or evaluations. |
TU | Tutorial | Step-by-step educational material. |
TL | Tool | Software, reusable engineering tools or frameworks. |
DS | Dataset | Published data prepared for reuse or analysis. |
RV | Review | Critical review or synthesis of existing work. |
Choose the type that best describes the publication itself. For example, a software tool is normally classified as TL; research that investigates automation is classified according to its research form, such as RS. Automation is a subject area, not a publication type.
4. Reading an identifier
ETA-09-ST-000042
- ETA: ETROYL Academy
- 06: Electromagnetic Modelling
- TL: Tool
- 000001: first serial in that domain-and-type sequence
This is an illustrative identifier only. Check the Publication Registry to determine whether any example ID has actually been assigned.
5. Publication metadata
The identifier is only one part of a publication record. Each record should provide, as applicable:
- Publication ID and title
- Author(s) and publisher (ETROYL Academy)
- Publication date and last-updated date
- Primary domain, secondary domains and topics
- Publication type, version and status
- License or rights statement
- Canonical URL and source repository, where relevant
- DOI or other external identifier, if available
Authors and publishers are separate roles. A license must reflect the actual permissions granted for that work; publication by ETROYL Academy does not automatically make every item open source.
6. Permanent identifier rules
- Assign an ID only after checking the Publication Registry and reserving the next serial for that domain/type pair.
- Once assigned, an ID is permanent and must never be reused.
- Updates, new versions, changes in URL or later reclassification do not change the original ID.
- Use one primary domain in the ID; represent cross-disciplinary relevance with secondary metadata.
- Do not treat an example, draft or unregistered ID-like string as an assigned identifier.
The Publication Registry is the authoritative record of which identifiers have actually been assigned. This page defines the public standard; it is not itself a list of registered publications.
